Luxene takes road markings beyond passive reflection with controllable orientation lighting built into the road. It changes how guidance is delivered today and lays the foundation for increasingly intelligent road markings as new capabilities are developed.
The challenge
Roads need visibility.
Not always more light.
Conventional road markings depend on headlights and can become harder to distinguish in darkness, rain or snow. Street lighting illuminates the surroundings, while road users need clear guidance along the road.
Luxene emits light directly from the road marking: a continuous reference rather than reflected light from headlights.
The GuideLine gives road users one unbroken visual reference instead of isolated points of light, so the course of the road appears as a single line.
Technical basis
Luxene generates light centrally and delivers it through optical fibres to create a continuous line integrated into the road. Roadside cabinets at regular intervals support extended sections.
The installation layout determines the length and roadside equipment required.
See how the line is built →Nexus can adjust the light along the line to provide guidance where it is needed.
Technical basis
Nexus gives an online view of connected installations and controls individually addressable light-line sections.
Energy use depends on configuration and operating settings. No measured saving percentage is presented here.
Explore Nexus →Light leaves the road through a transparent strip 12 mm wide, set within the standard white road marking. Light is directed at the line rather than spread across the surroundings.
Technical basis
GuideClear is the transparent finish that fills the groove flush with the surrounding road marking.
This describes the optical architecture. It is not a measured light-spill or ecological result; that requires measurement on a specific road.
Light is generated in roadside equipment and carried to the road optically. The road itself holds no active component: only a translucent ≈10 mm HDPE tube and a transparent marking strip.
Technical basis
The Luxene Controller and Laser Module sit in the roadside E-Cabinet. The GuideCarrier tube is integrated into the asphalt and supplied on a roll.
Cabinet, column and cable counts must be compared for a specific installation. No universal ratio is claimed.
How it works
Light, built into the road.
- 01Light generated outside the roadRoadside equipment generates the light, not electrical lighting components embedded in the road.
- 02Light delivered through optical fibreOptical fibre carries the light to the road-integrated line.
- 03Continuous orientation guidanceThe visible line follows the road rather than appearing as isolated points.

From passive to active to intelligent
Passive
Conventional road markings

Traditional road markings provide essential visual orientation through reflection and fixed physical characteristics.
Active
Luxene today

Luxene introduces actively generated, road-integrated orientation lighting with digital control and segment-level functionality. Nexus forms the initial intelligence layer.
Intelligent
An evolving platform

Luxene builds on today’s controllable infrastructure to enable increasingly adaptive, data-driven road guidance. Additional traffic, incident and sensing capabilities remain in development.

A clearer view of the road ahead
See where the road goes.
Luxene brings a continuous line of light directly into the road surface, making the road's course and boundaries easier to recognise, even in darkness and challenging visibility conditions.

Luxene Nexus
From a line of light to intelligent road guidance.
Luxene Nexus connects the physical light line to an intelligent online platform for remote monitoring and dynamic control. Lighting can respond to changing conditions when the installation supports it.
